On Jan. 3, 2017 in rural Nova Scotia, Corp. Lionel Desmond shot and killed his wife, Shanna, their daughter, Aaliyah, and his mother, Brenda before taking his own life.

The tragedy brought the effects of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) on veterans to the forefront.
