The spotted owl is one of Canada's most endangered birds. They used to call the steep, forested hills above British Columbia's Fraser Canyon home — But now, there's only one left.

Owl advocates say the government signed their death certificate, and First Nation and environmental groups are in court to demand the federal government take immediate action to save the forest that's home to the critically endangered spotted owl.

“That we even went to the federal government to request this emergency order in the first place speaks to the lack of responsibility and the lack of accountability by the BC NDP government. They're failing to step up and stand up to the logging industry and protect the owl habitat,” Wilderness Committee National Campaign Director Torrance Coste said.

Global’s Cassidy Mosconi reports.
