Shadow home secretary Yvette Cooper has described comments by Liz Truss that British workers don't work as hard as their foreign counterparts as a "total disgrace".

The Conservative leadership candidate also suggested Londoners and those in the South East worked harder than northerners.

Ms Cooper said the comments showed Ms Truss did not understand the electorate - she also urged the Tories to stop "faffing around" and help families suffering huge rises to their energy bills.
