La Palma volcano: Lava pours from new vent as lockdowns lifted

A new vent was discovered on Saturday morning, giving the Cumbre Vieja volcano a new opening to spew lava as it continued to erupt on La Palma, Spain since it began Sept. 19.

While authorities remain concerned about exposure outside and have advised people to limit their time outdoors, emergency services lifted a stay-home lockdown order that had been in effect in Los Llanos de Aridane, el Paso and areas of Tazacorte, places near the volcano that had been impacted by poor air quality.

The vent that opened Saturday was the latest, after another opening started pouring lava just a day prior. More than 800 buildings have been destroyed since the volcano started erupting last month.
