Multiple regions of Ukraine, including its capital, faced a massive Russian missile attack Thursday, the biggest wave of strikes in weeks targeting power stations and critical infrastructure during freezing weather.

Mykhailo Podolyak, an adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said Russia launched over 120 missiles. There were no immediate reports of any deaths.

Vitali Klitschko, Kyiv’s mayor, said Russia wanted to “bring depression” to Ukraine and plunge the country into “black times.”

“Instead, Ukrainian people are very angry. And they told them: ‘it’s better we stay without electricity and without heating. But we never give up,” he said.

The widespread attack was the latest in a series of Russian strikes on power and water supplies that have increased the Ukrainian population’s suffering. Russia has launched such attacks on a weekly basis since October, while its ground forces struggle to advance.
