Kids' emergency rooms are crunched in Canada, here's what parents should know

Some children's hospitals across Canada are reporting surges in their emergency departments and hospital wings, with at least two in Montreal recently urging parents to avoid visiting emergency rooms, if they can.

While many health officials say they are seeing expected surge numbers, that still puts them at more than the normal capacity hospitals should see — and is why families could be in for long waits if they come in.

As Global's Sean Previl reports, doctors say there are various symptoms parents can keep an eye out for when determining whether to head to the hospital, but most say if your gut is telling you to go, do so.
