Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said Friday that at least 16 people were confirmed dead, including six children, after historic flooding hit eastern parts of the state, and the numbers are expected to grow.

"We're going to grieve with you. We're going to support you. We're going to be here for you. Not just today, but tomorrow and in the weeks and in the years to come," Beshear said.

Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) administrator Deanne Criswell also spoke at the briefing and discussed the major disaster declaration issued for the state by President Joe Biden.

She said they had brought in additional search and rescue teams and they would continue to bring in resources if needed.
