Jim Carr, a Liberal MP from Winnipeg and former cabinet minister, has died at the age of 71, fellow Winnipeg-area MP Kevin Lamoureux announced in the House of Commons on Monday.
Carr was diagnosed with multiple myeloma during the 2019 campaign and also battled kidney failure.
Parliament held a moment of silence in honour of Carr before suspending the sitting, which was about to begin question period.
In a statement, his family said he had a "remarkable life," and was "extremely pleased" to have his private member's bill, Bill C-235 - Building a Green Prairie Economy pass through the House of Commons last week.
