The investigation into what happened at the Royal Military College in Kingston, Ont., is in the very early stages and the Department of Defence so far is not prepared to provide any substantive details about how four cadets ended up driving a vehicle into the water and perishing.

The military is not prepared to say if it was a civilian vehicle or a military one – it appears to be a green Toyota Tundra that went into the water just after 2 a.m. Friday morning. The Royal Military College's commandant spoke to the media on Friday night about the four who died and what the deaths mean for the tight-knit community.

“To lose four all at once – I mean, those young people and our staff and faculty pretty much all know each other. I live here, I see those young people pretty much every day and so four at a time under such circumstances – it’s tough,” Commodore Josée Kurtz said.
