Despite fleeing the north to escape a bombardment of Israeli airstrikes in the last week, hundreds of Palestinians were hit in Rafah, in the southern part of Gaza, on Tuesday morning — resulting in the death of at least 80.
Dozens of survivors were scrambling and digging through rubble in hopes of uncovering relatives, neighbours, or friends, while other civilians wailed as dead bodies were recovered and critically-injured victims were rushed to hospitals.
The recurring Israeli airstrikes come in response to the devastating attacks on Israel by Hamas terrorists on Oct. 7. The intense siege has left Gaza’s 2.3 million residents without power, fuel, or water services.
Amid the Israel-Hamas conflict, many Palestinians have been travelling south to the closed Rafah crossing, where Gaza borders Egypt. There, survivors wait daily, for either humanitarian aid or the border to open, so they can leave and seek refuge.
