On Wednesday, dozens of injured people and foreign passport holders in Gaza waited at the Rafah crossing point — Gaza's border with Egypt — to become the first evacuees to flee the region and seek refuge in and around Egypt amid consistent military bombardment from Israel.

A U.S. passport holder who was waiting at the Egypt-Gaza border said the last three weeks lacked “any minimum parameters for life,” with “no water, no food [and] no shelter."

“81 injured are being transported now from most of the Gaza Strip’s hospitals to the Egyptian side,” said a medic working with the Gaza Ministry of Health, Naseem Hasan, adding that patients require "advanced medical treatment and some major operations," as hospitals in the Gaza strip suffer from a lack of medical supplies.

The Rafah border crossing opened again on Wednesday for aid to be funneled in and for limited evacuations from the Gaza Strip — as per a Qatari-mediated agreement between Egypt, Israel, Hamas, and the U.S.
