China is worried that this war is going to spill into a wider conflict.
On Monday, China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi made two separate calls to the foreign ministers of Israel and the Palestinian Authority.
Speaking to Riyad al-Maliki, Wang said Beijing deeply sympathises with the difficulties of the Palestinian people. Wang condemned attacks on civilians. He said China is going to continue to provide humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people.
During his phone call with Israel’s Eli Cohen, Wang urged Israel to do what it can to protect civilians.
Wang said Israel has a choice between war and peace, and it is imperative that it must do everything it can to prevent the situation from spiralling into a further humanitarian catastrophe.
