Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang said on Tuesday that the country was "deeply worried" about the potential for escalation of the Ukraine conflict, as Russia's invasion of the eastern European country approaches the one-year mark this week.

Qin called on the U.S. and other countries to "immediately stop fueling the fire," adding the nations must also stop "hyping up Ukraine today, Taiwan tomorrow," in an apparent reference to ongoing concerns by some politicians that China could invade Taiwan in the near future, spurred on by Putin's actions against Ukraine.

Beijing has refrained from condemning Moscow's "special military operation" in Ukraine, and U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Saturday he had warned that if China provided "lethal assistance" to Russia, it would have "serious consequences" to the U.S.-China relationship.

Qin, however, balked at this claim, saying they were focused on finding peace for Ukraine and Russia.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin also criticized the U.S. on Tuesday over President Joe Biden's recent announcement of $500 million in aid, saying while the country was wanting to maintain peace, it was "hugely profiteering from war."
