Ireland's government is to formally apologise over the legacy of the country's so-called mother-and-baby homes.
A report released on Tuesday shows 9,000 children died in the church-run facilities over 70 years.
Ireland's minister for children described the abuse inflicted in the homes as oppressive and brutally misogynistic.
Al Jazeera’s Andrew Simmons reports.
