More and more coronavirus deaths are being racked up in Iran. Official statistics say more than 100,000 people have died. There is a shortage of everything, especially vaccines. Iranian researchers have developed their own vaccine, but production is nowhere near meeting demand. US and British vaccines have been rejected for political reasons. Meanwhile, the infection rate is surging. Only the USA and India are currently higher.
But it's not just a rising infection rate and a slow vaccination rollout creating an uphill battle for Iran. Another problem is a shortage of many treatments and even basics such as oxygen tanks that are critical for keeping COVID-19 patients alive.
