A tunnel under construction in Utterkashi, India collapsed on Sunday, trapping 40 workers.
Rescue operations commenced on Monday, with excavators moving mass amounts of rubble from in and outside of the tunnel.
The workers are all “safe,” according to assistant commander of the National Disaster Response Force Karamveer Singh Bhandari, who also said they had been supplied with oxygen, food and water.
“We hope to rescue them by today,” Bhandari said on Monday morning.
