The home secretary has suggested the United Nations 1951 Refugee Convention needs updating to stop "simply being gay or a woman" being a reason for people to claim asylum in the UK.

Suella Braverman questioned whether courts have redefined asylum to be granted for people suffering "discrimination" instead of "persecution" - especially in the context of someone who is gay or a woman.
