Schools are still closed in four out of nine regions around the world. In parts of the Asia Pacific, the proportion of classrooms shut increased between February and September, according to UNESCO.
The crisis is hitting students who were disadvantaged before the pandemic especially hard. Kids in underprivileged communities were unable to join online classes or were pulled out of school altogether.
