Sir Keir Starmer has defended his decision to withdraw support for Labour's candidate in the upcoming Rochdale by-election, calling it "tough but necessary".

Labour had originally stood by Azhar Ali after he apologised for comments he made about the October 7th attacks on Israel - with frontbencher after frontbencher defending him on the media rounds.
