It was supposed to just be a "scenic route" home for a New Brunswick volunteer firefighter this past August, but it led to him helping save the life of a Nova Scotia man on his way to a wedding.

Troy Burkey, a first aid trainer, had travelled to Halifax to pick up a boat under repair that unfortunately was not ready, meaning he'd have to head back home. But as he was driving down the highway, he came across Brandon Maloney who was on the side of the road.

Maloney, a husband, father and Sipeknekatik Band councillor, was on his way to his sister's wedding with the groom and had been riding his motorcycle along with the wedding party when he was involved in a T-bone accident with another vehicle.

Megan King reports on the story and how Burke is receiving overdue recognition for saving Maloney's life.
