Nova Scotians are heading to the polls on August 17 after Premier Iain Rankin dissolved the legislature to kick off the province's 41st election campaign and the first summer vote since 2003.

Health care and the response to COVID-19 is likely to be at the forefront of voters' minds and experts say it could be the right time for an incumbent premier and new leader of a Liberal party that has won two straight majorities.

As Ross Lord reports, an impaired driving conviction from when he was a young man could create political damage, but recent funding announcements, including $10-a-day childcare, may create enough of a buffer to lead Rankin to his first electoral victory in leadership.
