Houston church shooting: Off-duty cops kill woman after she open fires at megachurch

Two off-duty law enforcement officers in Houston took down a woman who opened fire at one of the largest evangelical churches in the U.S. on Sunday, according to Texas police.

Armed with a rifle and accompanied by a young child, the woman in her early 30s entered televangelist Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church and began firing.
Off-the-clock officers engaged in “striking the female” before she could kill anyone inside the church. “She is deceased here on the scene,” Houston Police Chief Troy Finner said in a statement.

Two people were injured, including the child who was with the shooter, Finner added. Officials said they were working to understand the child's relation to the shooter and the shooter's motive.

“We do not understand why these things happen, but we know God is in control, Osteen said, responding to the incident. “And we are going to pray for that little five-year-old boy and pray for the lady that was deceased, family and all. And the other gentleman,” the celebrity pastor added.
