With the Sandy Hook case against Alex Jones continuing in Connecticut, family members of the victims took the witness stand Tuesday to recount their trauma from their loss and the actions of Jones.

Jones is on trial to determine how much he owes families of victims who died in the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School mass shooting, which he falsely claimed was a hoax. The trial concerns only how much Jones and the parent company of his Infowars site must pay in damages for spreading lies that the U.S. government staged the killing of 20 children and six staff members as a pretext for seizing guns.

One father of a student, Mark Barden, shared how this was a "horror beyond anything we had ever, could ever imagine. Trying to deal with the fact that our little boy had just been shot to death in his first grade classroom and how to literally manage from one minute to the next."

A mother of another student, Sandy Wheeler, teared up as she recalled the last moments she spent with her late son. “I don't remember if I said, 'I love you,' but I, I remember saying, 'close the door.' That was the last thing I said. And then he went in."

Jones is not permitted to dispute his liability for damages, a result of his repeated failure to comply with court orders. In August, the conspiracy theorist was hit with a $49.3 million verdict in a similar case in Texas, where his Free Speech Systems is based.
