Four pro-democracy lawmakers were expelled from the Hong Kong legislature on Wednesday after the passing of a resolution in China that permitted the city's executive to expel legislators deemed to be supporting independence.
The city said the four legislators were expelled for endangering security, though did not provide more details.
Later on Wednesday, the remaining pro-democracy lawmakers still in office resigned in protest of their colleagues expulsion.
