In Hong Kong, more than a dozen legislators have resigned in solidarity, after the territory's government disqualified four opposition politicians.

China's legislature has passed a patriotism resolution - allowing the removal of legislators who challenge Beijing's rule.

Hong Kong's democracy says it amounts to the end of the "one country two systems" principle - in place since the 1997 handover from the United Kingdom to China.
