Parts of Texas started seeing heavy rains and high surf early Monday morning and into the afternoon as tropical storm Nicholas began to move inland, with weather officials warning the storm could make landfall as at least a Category 1 hurricane.

From Galveston to Corpus Christi and even Houston, people were battling the wind and rain as the communities were left drenched by the incoming storm and tropical storm warnings are in effect for much of the state's coastline, with hurricane watches in effect in some areas.

Gov. Greg Abbott warned people to heed the advice of officials, saying that in every storm he sees people driving into water only to end up with their vehicles submerged. He asked people to stay indoors and not make such attempts, and said they would make it through this like previous storms.
