Hailstorm, heavy rains deluge parts of Southern Australia

A hailstorm, accompanied by heavy rains and damaging winds, hit the South Australian state capital of Adelaide on Thursday.

Local residents described damage to vehicles, and some businesses experienced flooding.

Several schools were forced to close due to flooding or power outages caused by the storm, according to the state’s education department.

A number of vineyards in the area were also hit hard by hail, according to local winery business manager Leigh Underwood, who estimated one of his estate vineyards experienced a 40 per cent loss of crop.

The Australian Bureau of Meteorology has issued thunderstorm warnings over large parts of the state, with the north and east facing the possibility of severe ones in the forecast.
