The Colonial Pipeline in the United States remains at a standstill, four days after a critical ransomware attack shut down its entire network. The pipeline supplies fuel from the Gulf Coast to the densely populated eastern and southern U.S. The FBI now says a Russian hacker group known as DarkSide is responsible. The group claims it targets private companies to make money, but it remains unclear if it's state sponsored. As Jackson Proskow reports, it's the latest in a string of cyber attacks targeting American infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Canadian companies remain just as vulnerable to these cyber attacks. It's estimated about $797 million in ransom was paid in Canada alone during 2020. As Mike Le Couteur reports, the demands of hackers have increased significantly in Canada, the methods have only gotten more sophisticated.
