Albertans can expect six more weeks of winter, according to weather prognosticator Balzac Billy.

The man-sized groundhog emerged from his burrow to a crowd at Bluegrass Garden centre just north of Calgary, where he did some squats ahead of his prediction.

The anthropomorphic rodent saw his shadow, predicting another six weeks of winter.

Balzac Billy has been Alberta’s go-to groundhog since the late 1970’s when weather anchors (including current Global Calgary Weather Specialist Paul Dunphy) came up with the idea.
