On this episode of Global National: The former Ottawa Police Service Chief Peter Sloly testified at the Emergencies Act inquiry on Friday, regarding the trucker protests from earlier this year. Sloly, who resigned just days after the act was invoked, testified the protest in Ottawa was "overwhelming his force" while his officers were doing their best to peacefully end the occupation. Turning to Canada, an Alberta First Nation is taking what it believes will be a precedent-setting step towards Indigenous sovereignty and reconcilliation within the country's justice system. The Siksika First Nation has hired a law firm to create the country's first-ever First Nation bylaw prosecutor's office. Heather Yourex-West explains how lawyers will represent the First Nation, instead of the Crown, in order to enforce local band council resolutions and bylaws.
