On today’s top story: Much of southern Ontario is digging out after a winter storm blanketed much of the province. The biggest snowfall of the season in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) dropped as much as 30 centimetres of snow in some areas; grounding flights, knocking out power for thousands of homes and even unleashing a rare phenomenon called “thundersnow.” As Touria Izri reports, that storm system is now working its way east.

Global News’ senior meteorologist Kristi Gordon has more on “thundersnow,” a closer look at how much snowfall the GTA actually saw and what to expect for the rest of the weekend.

Canada’s defence chief has wrapped up his first trip to Ukraine since Russia’s invasion began over a year ago. His visit comes as Russia appears to be on the cusp of its first major victory in months. Reggie Cecchini reports on the situation in Bakhmut.
