In tonight’s top story: 60,000 new job roles across thousands of Canadian businesses were filled this June, increasing the nation’s labour pool massively. This increase, however — brought upon by Canada’s highest immigration rate since 1913 — has also driven the unemployment level to 5.4 per cent.

As a result, experts believe that the Bank of Canada will increase interest rates, once again, next week. Mackenzie Gray reports.

Following up on the state of Canada’s economy is Neetu Garcha, who reports on the ongoing B.C. port worker strike — which, on Friday, entered its seventh day. And with cargo piling up, an apparent end to this walkout is still not in sight.

Also, following the announcement of a new, $800M U.S. military aid package for Ukraine, Redmond Shannon explains the dangers and controversy surrounding cluster munitions — weapons included in the newly-announced package – and how Russia has being using them in their offensive since their initial invasion of Ukraine in early 2022.

And, as a result of climate change, forecasters are raising their hurricane season predictions above average. In fact, it’s being dubbed an “overactive” hurricane season. Jackson Proskow has the latest.
