Global National: July 24, 2021 | BC gets backup in unprecedented wildfire season

On this episode of Global National: About 100 firefighters from Mexico are joining crews in British Columbia as the province continues to battle over 260 wildfires raging throughout the province. Lauren Pullen reports on the situation from the southeastern part of B.C., where the worst of the fires are blazing.

A similar situation is transpiring in the western United States, where out-of-control wildfires have scorched over 550,000 hectares of land, with climate change creating the perfect conditions for fires to erupt. As Jennifer Johnson reports, major infernos, like California's Dixie Fire and the Bootleg Fire in Oregon, are spreading to new areas and forcing more evacuations.

And in Canadian politics, a new poll suggests the Liberals' lead over the Conservatives is narrowing. But as David Akin explains, the Tories are still in trouble, as their vital support in Western Canada sees a sharp decline from last election.

In Toronto, police clashed with protesters this week, as the city evicted dozens of people living in homeless camps set-up in local parks. As Katherine Ward reports, some city councillors are questioning the tactics, and calling on the mayor to change his approach.
