On tonight’s top story: In Nova Scotia, families who make their living at sea are facing a devastating loss. All six crewmembers on board a scallop fishing boat that sank in rough seas on Tuesday morning are now presumed dead. Only one body was recovered and the search for the others was suspended because of bad weather, prolonging the agony for their families. Ross Lord reports.

Alberta, overwhelmed by surging COVID-19 cases, has called in the Red Cross to help set up a field hospital in Edmonton. Heather Yourex-West looks at what the province could be facing as it heads into the holidays.

The Moderna vaccine has moved a big step closer to authorization in the United States. An independent committee is recommending the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approve the vaccine for emergency use. As Jennifer Johnson reports, if the FDA agrees, millions of doses of the vaccine could be shipped as early as this weekend.

The Boeing 737 MAX aircraft is one step closer to returning to Canadian skies. Transport Canada has approved design changes and further approvals are expected in January. All Boeing 737 MAX aircraft have been grounded for nearly two years after two of the planes crashed, killing 346 people. As Abigail Bimman explains, families of the victims say the changes don’t go far enough.

The Canadian military plans to replace its entire fleet of Polaris aircraft, including the plane used by the prime minister. Ottawa bureau chief Mercedes Stephenson explains what’s behind the decision, what it will cost and where the new planes will be coming from.
