Global National: Dec. 16, 2020 | Search suspended for missing Nova Scotia fishermen

Our top story tonight: The search for crew members that went missing after a scallop fishing boat sank in the Bay of Fundy on Tuesday has been suspended. Rescue crews recovered the body of one man, but six men were on board the vessel. As Ross Lord reports from Digby, N.S., the RCMP is taking over the investigation.

In Ontario, medical officials are warning about an increasing strain on hospitals as coronavirus cases continue to rise. Hospitals that are already over-capacity are being told to activate emergency plans to clear beds for a surge in more COVID-19 patients. Abigail Bimman reports on the warnings from health experts.

It is rare for children to get ill from COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, but it does happen. In Alberta, a five-day-old infant was hospitalized, and wound up in intensive care, after coming down with a fever in late November. Heather Yourex-West has the family’s story.

A Canadian astronaut will be joining a record-setting voyage into deep space around the moon in the second phase of NASA’s Artemis program, expected to launch in 2023. The major new public-private space program has the ambitious goal of taking humans back to the lunar surface. Mike Armstrong reports.
