German President Steinmeier has expressed his shame at the crimes committed, and pledged to raise awareness of the atrocities. He also said that he would begin the process of returned artefacts looted during the colonial era. It comes at the end of a three-day visit to the East African country, in which both countries aimed to strengthen relations.
