In a historic trial, a German court has sentenced a former Syrian colonel to life imprisonment for crimes against humanity.
The trial is the world’s first criminal case brought over state-led torture in Syria.
The former colonel was convicted for his role in supervising the torture, rape and murder of detained individuals suspected of being anti-Bashar al-Assad demonstrators. Crystal Goomansingh reports.
