FBI and local law enforcement agencies confirmed on Wednesday that they found belongings believed to be those of Brian Laundrie, such as a backpack and a notebook, in a Florida wilderness park they have been searching for days.

Laundrie remains a person of interest in Gabby Petito's case, the young woman who vanished on a road trip with her boyfriend and later turned up dead in Wyoming.

“Earlier today, investigators found what appears to be human remains, along with personal items, such as a backpack and notebook belonging to Brian Laundrie, these items were found in an area that up until recently, had been under water,” said Michael McPherson, the special agent in charge of FBI's Tampa field office.

Teton County Coroner Dr. Brent Blue, whose office had already ruled Petito's death a homicide, said on Oct. 12 she was killed about three to four weeks before her body was found on Sept. 19.
