Lawmakers in France have approved the wording of a proposal by President Emmanuel Macron to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64. It clears the way for the controversial bill to face a final vote in parliament. The move came as thousands of protesters took to the streets of cities across France in a last-ditch attempt to convince lawmakers to oppose it.
