Clashes between protesters of President Emmanuel Macron's pension reforms and riot police erupted on Saturday in a Paris shopping mall, one of several scuffles in various cities amid peaceful demonstrations.

People marched through the streets of Nantes and waved flags in Paris' Place d'Italie, voicing their displeasure after the French government decided to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64.

On the streets of Nantes, tear gas was tossed by police and returned by some protesters, while garbage bags littering the sidewalks were set on fire. Fires were also seen in Paris on Saturday evening, where garbage containers had also been set on fire.
