The French coastguard said a boat carrying 67 migrants capsized off the coast of Boulogne-sur-Mer in northern France overnight.

The remaining 63 people on board were rescued in an operation involving four ships and a helicopter, it added.

After the tragedy, the government said it was "accelerating" efforts to stop people smuggling and small boat crossings. But Nigel Farage, leader of Reform UK, said it should "start moving fast" on the issue.
