Dr. Anthony Fauci, the top advisor on the COVID-19 pandemic for President Joe Biden, attended a White House press briefing on Thursday and spoke about the planned rollout for vaccines amid reports the new administration was inheriting a nonexistent distribution plan. Fauci stressed they were not "starting from scratch," but are working to take what's in place and "amplify" it.

He added if they get 70 to 85 per cent of the population vaccinated by the middle to end of summer, they could be “approaching a degree of normality," but stressed it would only happen if they get that level of vaccination.

He also spoke about concerns surrounding the various COVID-19 variants, including ones specifically in the country, but said that at this time COVID-19 vaccines do work on the various “mutant” variants, such as those that originated in the U.K. and South Africa. He did add that they have plans in place to adjust should any issues arise with the current vaccines and their efficacy against the variants.

Fauci also spoke about his time in the Trump administration, saying that by comparison, it was clear to him the Biden administration was focused on being "completely transparent" about their handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. He said that if things went wrong, they would not "point fingers," and instead focus on correcting the issues. He added that it was "liberating" to "let the science speak."
