Fatal domestic incident outside Calgary school sends shockwaves through community

Reactions continued to pour in on Wednesday following a domestic incident that left a woman dead outside an elementary school in Calgary, Alberta.

"A lot of lives were changed yesterday based on the decisions made by one individual," Calgary Police Service Chief Constable Mark Neufeld told Global News on Wednesday.

Investigators say officers were called to the area Tuesday morning to find a woman dead. The suspect, the woman's husband, was found dead a short time later.

Global News has learned a publication ban is in effect on the identity of the victim in relation to previous charges, showing the man was charged with sexual assault in 2023. As such we will not be identifying the couple. There was also a no-contact order in place.

As Global's Tracy Nagai reports, advocates say more awareness is needed to stop this from happening again.
