Speaking exclusively to Sky's Wilfred Frost ahead of a meeting of finance ministers in Luxembourg, the US Treasury Secretary said America's economy and public finances were in good shape to ensure backing for US interests abroad.

Ms Yellen said it was too early in the Israel-Hamas conflict to predict any effects on oil and gas prices globally, accompanied by tensions in the wider Middle East and elsewhere in the economy.

She also told Sky News the United States can "certainly" afford wars on two fronts, as the conflict between Israel and Hamas threatens stability in the Middle East and the US continues to support Ukraine's fight against Russia.
