Conservative Leader Erin O'Toole on Monday responded to the recent discovery of a mass grave at a former residential school in British Columbia, calling on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to take “immediate action” and asking the government to accelerate the completion of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s calls to actions that deal with missing children, calling the discovery "devastating."

"Every party, indeed every Canadian, has a role to play in reconciliation," he said. "We must work together to ensure we bring our dark history to light, acknowledge it and learn from it and ensure nothing like it ever happens again."

The Tk’emlups te Secwepemc First Nation in Kamloops announced Thursday that ground-penetrating radar uncovered the remains of 215 children who were students of the Kamloops Indian Residential School.

The discovery has led to calls for action from Indigenous leaders, politicians, and residential school survivors alike, with many saying that similar searches should be conducted at the sites of other residential schools.
