Qatar, Egypt and the United States urged Israel and Hamas to agree on principles outlined by US President Joe Biden. However, far-right ministers in the ruling Israeli coalition threatened to dissolve Netanyahu’s government if he accepted such a deal. Israel’s opposition is urging the government to accept Biden’s new ceasefire proposal for Gaza, but Netanyahu has stated that conditions haven’t changed and he won’t accept a permanent ceasefire until Hamas is destroyed. Hamas spokesperson Osama Hamdan welcomed Biden’s proposal as “positive” but said the group has yet to receive any written documents.

Al Jazeera’s Shihab Rattansi reports from Washington, DC.
