Eglinton Station stabbing: Victim of Toronto subway attack speaks out, says TTC “isn’t safe”

Derek Dychkhoff, the Toronto man who was stabbed on a TTC subway train at Eglinton Station on July 6, has spoken out following the unsuspected attack, calling the TTC unsafe.

Dychkoff, 37, was stabbed in the rib while other TTC riders ran away for safety. He said he had to “beg” for somebody to assist him while he was bleeding out, despite them being “hesitant” to help him.

Dychkoff’s injuries resulted in the removal of his spleen and a cast for his arm.

Whether the lack of hospitality from other Torontonians surprised him, Dychkoff told Global’s Sean O’Shea that it did not and that “there is no sense of community” in Toronto “these days.”

“It almost cost me my life,” the victim concluded.
