Drug deaths in Scotland hit worst level on record

Policy makers in Glasgow believe the pandemic may have contributed to an increase in drug use as latest figures show heroin and morphine has affected families on a record level.

Figures from the National Records of Scotland show that in 2019, 1,264 people died from drugs misuse - 77 more than in 2018, which is a 6% rise.

The UK government has control over the law on drugs but the Scottish government has set up a taskforce to also help tackle the issue.
