Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab has told Sky News that the country must avoid a wage spiral which will feed rising prices.

He told Kay Burley that "there needs to be restraint on public sector pay" to control inflation, and called the unions' strike action "militant".

Talks are due to resume, but there are not yet any signs of the rail strikes being called off.

When asked about allegations of the Prime Minister trying to give his wife a governor position when he was Foreign Secretary, the Deputy Prime Minister said such claims were "flawed".

He went on to say that he thought "Carrie was being used to attack the Prime Minister.... which is not on."
