Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen on Monday called the shooting at a crowded shopping mall in Copenhagen a “worst possible nightmare,” as the gunman is held in a closed psychiatric ward.

Three people were killed in the attack on Sunday and several others were wounded after the 22-year-old opened fire in the shopping centre, which is just a few kilometres from downtown Copenhagen.

The suspected gunman has been charged with manslaughter and intent to kill.

A 17-year-old man and a 17-year-old woman were killed in the attack, as well as a 47-year-old Russian citizen living in Denmark.

The shopping mall was packed with people who were expecting to attend a Harry Styles concert not far from the building. The concert was cancelled following the attack.
